Hankook & Company establishes subsidiary for battery business in Germany

Neu-Isenburg, Germany, 17 October 2022 – Hankook & Company Co., Ltd., the holding company of Hankook Tire & Technology Co., Ltd., has established a new subsidiary company under its Energy Solution (ES) Business Headquarters: Hankook & Company ES Deutschland, based in Frankfurt, aims to expand the company’s automotive battery business in the vibrant European market. Hankook & Company gave a first look at the new batteries of the brand (formerly Hankook Atlas BX) in September at Automechanika, Europe’s largest car parts trade fair, which also took place in the city on the Main.

Hankook & Company ES Deutschland GmbH is Hankook & Company's first battery subsidiary in Europe. The company has chosen Frankfurt as a strategic location as the city is an important hub for European rail and global air transport. With this logistical advantage, Hankook aims to create an efficient supply chain for its premium batteries and expand its business activities in Europe. The company has had an office in Frankfurt since 2019. Hankook & Company’s subsidiary Hankook Tire supplies original equipment tyres to German premium automobile manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche and is showing significant growth in the European market – the holding company expects synergy effects with the new subsidiary here.

Best driving performance in any weather

Hankook & Company ES Deutschland GmbH will supply a wide range of Hankook-branded energy storage systems. The portfolio includes AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat), EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) and MF (Maintenance Free) batteries that meet the high demands of the automotive industry. Hankook AGM batteries provide the best value for money for start-stop vehicles and premium vehicles.  The Hankook EFB batteries feature improved MF technology, which is ideal for entry-level start-stop vehicles. In addition, the new Hankook MF batteries offer constant energy supply in all weather conditions for the best driving performance. All three products are also equipped with advanced X-Frame technology, which extends service life and improves engine starting performance.

Since the MF battery was launched in 1982, Hankook & Company ES Business Headquarters has continuously expanded its research and development. In 2005, the company was the first in Korea to launch an AGM battery for the stop-start system. Hankook & Company has three production facilities as well as its research and development centre and supplies approximately 450 clients in 100 countries through its four global sales locations in the USA, Asia and Europe.

Hankook Tire manufactures globally innovative, award-winning radial tyres of proven superior quality for passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs, RVs, trucks, and buses as well as motorsports (circuit racing/street circuits/rallies).

Aspiring to bring consumers the utmost excellence in product quality, technological excellence and driving satisfaction, Hankook Tire continuously invests in research and development maintaining five R&D centres and eight production facilities around the world. Bespoke tyre solutions for the European markets as well as European Original Equipment according to the requirements of leading premium car manufacturers, are developed in the company’s regional Technical Centre in Hanover/Germany. Production for the European region is taking place in the state-of-the-art manufacturing site in Rácalmás/Hungary which was inaugurated in June 2007 and is continuously being expanded.
